The four-poster canopy bed used to be a traditional bed of ancient Han Chinese people. It is a bed with four posters, with some having three railing frames on the left, right and back; some having a front covering; and some having a foot stool and an additional front covering. The beds come in different shapes and sizes, with elaborate designs and luxurious adornment. Most decorative patterns feature historical stories, folk legends, flowers, horses and landscapes etc, symbolizing harmony, peace, auspiciousness, happiness, and having lots of children etc. The beds are either simple and elegant, or gorgeous and splendid in style.
