China is one of the earliest countries in the world to produce canoes and use the canoe and oar to sail across the sea. A canoe is the simplest boat turned from a big log which was chiseled hollow in the middle. It was evolved from the raft. Although the evolving process was rather slow, it has made an important step in the development history of ship building technology. The production of the canoe needed to have relatively advanced production tools and follow certain processing procedures. The technology was more difficult and advanced than that of rafts. It had possessed the embryonic shape of ships.
