矢 (arrow)

Shi (矢) is a pictographic character. In the oracle bone inscriptions, it looks exactly like an arrowhead. In ancient times, “shi” was the term meaning “an arrow”.

The real origin of arrows dates back to the Paleolithic Age of the primitive society, when stone pieces, bones and shells were sharpened and fitted to one end of an arrow stick. Thus, arrows with stone, bone or shell heads were born. In order to hit the target with precision, you must take control of the course of an arrow’s flight. Then, feathers were added to the tail of the arrow stick, perfecting the shape of an arrow.
